North Shore Kauai Neighborhoods

Overview of Princeville, Hanalei & Kilauea

North Shore Kauai real estate is known for being in one of the jewels of Hawaii. The North Shore of Kauai is famous for some of the most lush, green scenery on the Island. In a place abundantly blessed with breathtaking landscapes, ocean views and mountains, that’s saying something. You’ll find homebuyers here who are true Nature Lovers, people who get the greatest pleasure from experiencing a living, emerald shaded masterpiece every day.

Make Your Home On Kauai's Beautiful North Shore

Kauai's Hanalei Valley3 towns make up the majority of organized communities here. Kilauea is the largest, with a population of almost 2,300 (see Kilauea Houses or Kilauea Condos for sale). At one time it was famous as the ‘Guava Capital of the World’, home to the largest guava plantation on Earth; until it closed in 2006. Kilauea’s fame continues, though, because it still has attractions like the Kilauea Lighthouse, where stunning ocean views can be enjoyed every day. There are advantages to being on the northernmost point of Kauai.

Princeville is only slightly smaller than Kilauea, with a population of almost 2200. It began its life as a coffee plantation in 1853. Today it is the largest planned community on Kauai, most of its industry based around the nearby resorts and tourism.

The 3rd town, Hanalei, has only 500 residents, but has a worldwide reputation. The area has been the backdrop for many movies, including the classic musical, ‘South Pacific’. In addition, the Hanalei Bay beach was recently selected the Best Beach in the World. Houses and condos are generally more expensive in this section of Kauai, a result of the understandable desirability and beauty of this district. Persistent & patient homebuyers may still be able to find something more affordable, but be prepared for a higher cost.

Napali Coast on Kauai's North ShoreStill, you have many free to low-cost recreational options that will never cease to enrich your life. On the North Shore you’ll find hiking on the Napali Coast, where the valleys embrace you warmly and the endlessly plunging waterfalls cool you in their spray. If sand and surf is what you need that day, you’ve got that, too. There’s Lumahi Beach, the setting for much of ‘South Pacific’, Kee Beach, the choice of smart sunbathers, and the chart-topping Hanalei Bay Beach, of course.

For the person, or family, who spend more time outdoors than in, Kauai’s North Shore could be calling you. There’s no better place to truly ‘go green’.
